John Kiru

TABIA Executive Director

A BIA veteran with forays into the administration of municipal government, John is well versed in ensuring the needs of BIAs and their members are heard and addressed by our civic leaders. It doesn’t hurt that he’s equally at home in the office, along the corridors of City Hall and on the golf links.

John’s green bona fides include overseeing the founding of the Weston BIA Farmers’ Market, guidance on how to establish the Hamilton Mountain Farmers’ Market and a stint in the Real Estate Division of the Credit Valley Conservation Authority. This green streak was evident in recognizing and supporting the LED exchange opportunity in the early 2000s which brought together TABIA, the Cavalcade of Lights program and Toronto Hydro. This vision of how BIAs could participate in the emerging green economy was prescient and cleared the path for the eventual creation of greenTbiz.

John holds a BAA in Urban and Regional Planning from Ryerson Polytechnical University and has Science and Geological Engineering education from the University of Windsor
