The Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas became interested in energy conservation in 2003. TABIA and its member BIAs realized the impact of the thousands of decorative lights in the BIAs and decided to retrofit to LEDs.
TABIA also developed the Calvacade of Lights Neighbourhood Exchange. From 2004-2006, TABIA in partnership with Toronto Hydro coordinated over 30 neighbourhood exchanges where Toronto residents could exchange their incandescent holiday lights for new LEDs. TABIA's efforts earned them a Toronto Green Award of Excellence for Market Transformation in 2004.
TABIA's interest in energy conservation continue to expand with the introduction of greenTbiz in early 2006. Brian Owen and Chantal Brundage developed the suite of programs delivered by greenTbiz.
Through funding provided by the Toronto Atmospheric Fund and the Conservation Bureau, greenTbiz has seen great success over the last year. All programs and activities are described throughout this website.
We hope to be able to continue to assist BIAs and thier members to think green and save green for many years to come.
